Actemium Summa Toronto is seeking a team player who has experience with project management in an industrial environment ideally within electrical, instrument or controls and automation in manufacturing environments. Target segments include water/wastewater treatment, and food & beverage industries.

Actemium Summa is looking for an engineering professional with great planning and scheduling skills, high integrity, and fantastic communication skills, both written and verbal. Management of multiple projects at one time requires good time management and the ability to react to customers demands and changes.

What you’ll be doing

This role entails comprehensive oversight of project execution, ensuring seamless coordination between our customers and our internal programming, electrical design and panel shop. The PM is responsible for managing a portfolio of multiple projects based in the water treatment industry working for both municipalities, townships, consultants, and principal contractors. Co-ordinating the project lifecycle from project award to handover and completion. The scope of responsibilities encompasses five key areas: project administration, financial management, customer and internal coordination, commercial activities, and operational efficiency—all executed in strict adherence to company policies and guidelines. Travel to the client’s site for meetings, FAT/SAT witnessing etc. will be required on occasion depending upon the project.

Specific Accountabilities include:

  • Managing project schedules with internal or external customers to meet their expectations.
  • Maintain detailed schedules and milestones throughout the entire project life cycle.
  • Communicate appropriately with Clients and End Users any schedule deviations to and proactively manage potential impacts.
  • Track project financial metrics and take necessary actions to keep projects within budgetary constraints.
  • Initiate and track milestone payments in accordance with project progress.
  • Scope change management to ensure financial implications are appropriately addressed.
  • Conflict resolution to ensure projects are delivered to the customer successfully.
  • Collaborate with Department Managers and the General Manager to implement workflow improvements.
  • Coordinate procurement activities where necessary either directly or through coordination with relevant teams.
  • Target and network with new segments, including Contractors, Consultants, Municipalities and Townships, vendors, OEMs, etc.

Minimum qualifications

  • This is an in-office position, will only consider applicants willing and able to commute on a daily basis.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 5+ years’ experience working in Project Management within a manufacturing/industrial setting.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Proficient in using MS Office software and project management tools and software.
  • Ability to interact at all levels of a manufacturing organization.
  • Time and priority management skills
  • Ability to manage difficult situations and a strong decision-making ability under pressure.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Valid class G driver’s license and personal transportation to travel to customer job sites.

Beneficial qualifications

  • PMP certificate
  • Eng designation
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater industry
  • In depth knowledge of instrumentation, controls and automation, SCADA.
  • Experience working with SAP and SharePoint

About your working environment

  • Primarily based in our offices in Mississauga.
  • Will be required to wear protective equipment in designated areas such as: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed safety boots whilst on site.
  • May be exposed to cold, heat and humidity, loud noise levels, and dust.
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals.
  • Some travel as and when required both local and outside of Toronto/GTA.
  • Overtime as required.

The main industries we support include Food & Beverage, Brewing, Life Sciences and Water/Wastewater. This is a full-time permanent role reporting directly to the General Manager. The Summa PM team consists of a high-performance group of managers, engineers, and technicians.

To be successful in this role

The Project Manager will be responsible for supporting the General Manager by ensuring our internal project budgets, milestones and hours for our various customers are maintained and monitored.  Their objectives will be to ensure work is completed safely, on time, on budget and meeting the stated project deliverables.  Assignments will consist of projects within the Greater Toronto Area with the potential of projects to be located across Canada/USA.  To be successful in this role, the incumbent must be positive and cheerful, hands on, adaptable, enjoy taking on challenges, and able to cut through the small stuff to get the job done. Candidates will be considered based on years of engineering experience, specifically in the food, beverage, and life science and water/wastewater industries.
