Actemium Toronto is seeking a team player who has experience as project manager or in electrical, controls and automation or systems design in manufacturing environments, specifically food, beverage, and life science industries. The Project Manager will join a high-performance team of engineers and technicians in the food, beverage and brewing industries, reporting directly to the Senior Program Manager, Project Services. The Project Manager will be responsible for developing and executing projects to ensure work is completed on time, on budget and meeting the stated objective. The right individual shall possess diverse technical, operational and process systems understanding, complimented with a keen eye and willingness to dive into technical details where appropriate to do so. Refined communication, organizational, project management and negotiation skills are essential as is experience of delivering successful projects to the customer. The candidate will be recognized as a leader who works effectively both independently and in a team environment demonstrating flexibility to ensure customer satisfaction.
What you’ll be doing
- Support the Internal Project Manager to Complete Life Cycle Project Management of projects ranging from 10K – 1M
- Gather Project Requirements: based on requests and information that has been provided by the customer.
- Establish Design Specifications: establish conceptual design parameters. Participate and coordinate meetings with the customer and equipment vendors to outline solutions and finalize the complete design.
- Clarify Project Deliverables: solidify the outcome of the project: i.e., what equipment will be in place; what technical requirements need to be met, etc.
- Create Project Budget: in partnership with the customer obtain official approval to invest an exact amount of capital funds. Budget creation through the gathering and prudent assessment of estimates provided by 3rd party vendors and/or contractors.
- Create Project Schedule Timelines & Milestones from Start to Finish: ensure all equipment and services can be purchased, scheduled and implemented in alignment to meeting the official launch date. Contact all vendors to obtain lead-times of equipment and services from the point of PO (purchase order). Create the skeleton model of the primary project task list with specific deadlines in alignment to ‘key’ project milestones.
- Create, Issue & Award Tenders: 3-step process with the last step (award) typically done as a joint venture with the customer and their purchasing department (e.g., price negotiation, SLA’s etc.)
- Overall Execution: organize and manage all installation activities i.e., dates of equipment delivery; identifying each step for installation; project schedule attainment; managing and updating project plan, keeping key stakeholders abreast of any changes to the plan, etc.
- Construction Management: on-site management when all equipment arrives, and the contractors are on site. Daily supervision of all contractors and overall site activities is required.
- Start-Up & Commissioning: go-live point where all equipment has been installed and now ready to begin production. Work with the vendors and provide hands-on technical assistance to troubleshoot equipment being commissioned.
- Final Acceptance & Project Closure: assist in the site acceptance tests to ensure all equipment and systems meet the performance guarantees originally committed to as part of the equipment supplier contract agreements.
Minimum Qualifications
- Engineering Degree, preferred
- Preferred 1-2+ years of experience in the consumer goods, heavy industrial and/or pharmaceutical industries.
- Experience with various processes: bulk materials handling, CIP, filtration, utilities & services, filling and packaging, cartoners and case packers, palletizer an asset.
- Technical process systems understanding, complimented with a keen eye and willingness to dive into the details and trouble shoot where appropriate, to ensure system performances are measured and achieved.
- Excellent English communication skills (verbal and written)
- Exceptional project, time and priority management skills
- Strong leadership, negotiation, meeting facilitation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to effectively interact with and communicate to all levels of a manufacturing organization – shop floor to board room.
- Ability to effectively interact with and lead outside contractors and service suppliers.
- General understanding of regulatory requirements for electrical and safety systems i.e., CSA, ESA, etc.
- Good comprehension of construction work and its safety requirements
- Must be able to accommodate travel to deliver against client project anywhere in North America
- Experience supporting centerlining activities is preferred.
- Experience with loss tree, top stops and root cause analysis to resolve productions issues.

The Project Manager will be responsible for supporting the execution of projects for various customers within a variety of production and manufacturing industries. Their objectives will be to ensure work is completed safely, on time, on budget and meeting the stated project deliverables. The Project Manager will possess strong communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Assignments will consist of projects within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with the potential of projects to be located across Canada/USA. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must be hands on, adaptable, and possess the ability to lead, manage, and influence change within various organizational environments. Travel to customer sites is expected and the incumbent must be comfortable working at customer sites for varying amounts of time.
