Actemium Panel Shop Toronto is seeking a team player who has experience with EPLAN schematic design for industrial control panels, or in electrical, controls and automation systems design in manufacturing environments.  Target segments include food, beverage, life science and water/wastewater industries.

What you’ll be doing

The EPLAN Electrical Designer is a key member of our team responsible for collaborating with Automation and Project Managers in the development of electrical control panel schematics for various projects. This role involves working from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, specification sheets, and other relevant data to ensure the successful design and implementation of electrical systems. The Electrical Designer plays a crucial role in project proposals, kick-offs, design reviews, panel fabrication support, Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs), and project closeout.

Specific Accountabilities include:

  • Work closely with Automation and Project Managers to develop electrical schematics from preliminary concepts, sketches, engineering calculations, and specification sheets.
  • Assist with project proposals, project kick-offs, design reviews, FATs, and project closeout.
  • Thorough understanding of design and implementation of the Canadian Electrical Code for control, power distribution, and I/O panels.
  • Produce electrical schematics, wiring details, panel enclosure layouts and reports using E-Plan in accordance with established guidelines and client specifications.
  • Develop and maintain bill of materials for electrical hardware and devices, cable lists, and wire number lists.
  • Procurement of all control panel hardware.
  • Developing and standardizing EPLAN library and macros.
  • Working with Production to plan integrations from EPLAN to shop floor automation.
  • Check and revise drawings for accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Preparing the release of drawings for fabrication.
  • Conduct site visits/audits to assess existing infrastructure, including switchgear, MCCs, control panels, cable trays, etc., in support of the engineering team.
  • Provide support to Automation and Electrical Installation teams with electrical issues.
  • Mentor and provide training and guidance to Electrical Designers in the use of EPLAN.
  • Some travel may be required to various project sites.

Minimum qualifications

  • Experience with EPLAN Electric P8 (schematics)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code.
  • Strong project management and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of the equipment and systems installed in the manufacturing facilities for Food, Beverage, Pharmaceutical, Water and Wastewater
  • Microsoft 365 Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to interact at all levels of a manufacturing organization
  • Valid class G driver’s license and personal transportation to travel to customer job sites

Beneficial qualifications

  • Experience with EPLAN Pro Panel
  • Experience with AutoCAD Electric
  • Knowledge of machine safety Z432-16
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classifications

Actemium Toronto is an established leader in controls integration, project management, and engineering services for a wide range of clients in a variety of industries.  The main industries we support include Food & Beverage, Brewing, Life Sciences and Water/Wastewater.   This is a full-time permanent role reporting directly to the Electrical Design Manager.  The Panel Shop team consists of a high-performance group of managers, engineers, and technicians.

The success of the Electrical Designer in this role is measured by the ability to contribute to the seamless execution of projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and meeting all specified project deliverables.  Assignments will consist of projects within the Greater Toronto Area with the potential of projects to be located across Canada/USA.  To be successful in this role, the incumbent must be positive and cheerful, hands on, adaptable, enjoy taking on challenges, and able to cut through the small stuff to get the job done.  Candidates will be considered based on years of engineering experience, specifically in the food, beverage, and life science and water/wastewater industries.
