Junior Project Manager - Actemium Toronto

Actemium Toronto is seeking a team player who has experience as a Project Manager or Project Engineer who possesses strong communication, organizational, time management and negotiation skills. The primary assignment will consist of projects in the GTA with the potential of future short-term projects across Canada.

What you’ll be doing

  • Working with senior Project Management Staff, assist client in defining project scopes, generating design options, performing needs analysis with client based on requests and information provided by the customer to determine the project charter and deliverables.
  • Assist in creation of project budget in partnership with the customer and senior project management staff through the gathering of estimates from third party vendors and/or contractors.
  • Assist in creation of project schedule by ensuring all equipment and services can be purchased, scheduled and implemented in alignment to meeting the official launch date. Contact all vendors to obtain lead times of equipment and services from the point of purchase order.
  • Provide on-site management when equipment arrives and the contractors are on site. Daily supervision of all contractors and overall site activities is required.
  • Create and maintain project dashboard and KPI’s
  • Assist in the site acceptance tests to ensure all equipment and systems meet the performance guarantees that were originally committed to as part of the equipment supplier contract agreements.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (ideally Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical or Management, but all engineering disciplines will be considered)
  • Excellent English communication skills, both verbal and written (required)
  • Time and priority management skills (required)
  • Ability to interact at all levels of a manufacturing organization – shop floor to board room (required)
  • Ability to interact with and effectively lead outside contractors and service suppliers (required)
  • Ability to manage intense situations (required)
  • Accuracy, attention to detail and well organized (required)
  • Understanding of the broader aspects of facilities and process engineering and construction (considered an asset)
  • Experience in the food and beverage industry (considered an asset)
  • Working toward a Professional Engineering License (P. Eng.) (required)
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or working towards one (considered an asset)
  • Supervisory experience (considered an asset)
  • General understanding of equipment safeguarding in a production environment (considered an asset)

Career Development and Training

  • Initial role will be to support senior project management staff with existing projects to gain knowledge of company and customer policies, procedures, and practices.
  • As skills and relationships with customer develop, larger portions of project management responsibilities will be assigned.
  • Expected outcome is the promotion to Project Manager, where responsibility will include all elements of project management, while still supported by senior staff as needed.

About your working environment

  • Weekend work as required for installations

  • Will be required to wear protective equipment in designated areas such as: hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed safety boots
  • May be exposed to cold, heat and humidity, loud noise levels, and dust
  • Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and peripherals

Actemium Toronto is an established leader in project management, controls integration, and engineering services for a wide range of clients in a variety of industries.  The main industries we support include Food & Beverage, Brewing, and Life Sciences.   This is a full-time permanent role reporting directly to the Business Unit Manager. 

To be successful in this role

The Project Manager will be responsible for supporting the execution of projects for various customers within a variety of production and manufacturing industries. Their objectives will be to ensure work is completed safely, on time, on budget and meeting the stated project deliverables. The Project Manager will possess strong communication, organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills. Assignments will consist of projects within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) with the potential of projects to be located across Canada/USA.  To be successful in this role, the incumbent must be hands on, adaptable, and possess the ability to lead, manage, and influence change within various organizational environments.  Travel to customer sites is expected and the incumbent must be comfortable working at customer sites for varying amounts of time.
